My wife and I enjoyed a similar trip on Doug Spinn’s Pacific Sands UP sleeper. We traveled from Los Angeles to New Orleans, then to Washington DC and Boston. From Boston we went to Chicago before heading back to Los Angeles. At each stop his railcar was our hotel. When we arrived home we had logged over 6000 miles. It was an amazing trip.

Thank you for your patience, here is the expert response:

This is not a trip that I took, but private rail care trips can get quite expensive. And, with the new Amtrak policy, private main line rail trips are almost a thing of the past.

We rode the Dover Harbor from D.C. to Springfield, Mass, back in 2001 (and then bus up into Vermont.) Great trip. Nice vintage car! Thanks, Allen for the memories !!!!!!!
