One would think with the desire that still exist for rail travel more cars and routes would be put in service.

As a Civil Engineer specialising in urban development and renewal, always interesting to read articles about bridges and refurbished buildings – like the Union station building in Chicago. My brother lives in Ohio, and I would love to visit. I’m not sure about your prices, but it is very expensive back home to travel by rail across our continent. This is probably because our population (25 million) is so small compared to the US, and do we don’t get the economies of scale.
John.

These pics looked very familiar.

I used to ride The City of N.O. And the Panama Limited between Memphis and Chicago with my dad. “Central” (I.C.) Station was the Chicago terminal then, not Union Station for those trains in the 50’s and before.

The Carbondale IL crew base move the trains between CUS and Memphis.
