Tunnel Scene From Start to Finish

In this detailed video, modeler Martin Tärnrot demonstrates a common build on a model railroad – a slight grade going down and into a tunnel. He shares his methods and materials for each step as follows:

 Distribute ballast over the tracks.
 Position the tunnel portal.
 Build the inner tunnel.
 Begin the backdrop design in cardboard.
 Complete the tunnel interior.
 Weather the tunnel portal.
 Run test trains.
 Build the backdrop (here, a mountainside) in papier mache.
 Add rocks from rock molds and paint all rock formations.
 Place line-side detailing, e.g., cabinets and poles.
 Cover surfaces with static grass.
 Add trees and bushes.
