Mastering Stone Walls: Four Proven Techniques for Realistic Results

One of the structures present on almost every model railroad layout is stone walls. Modeler Martin Tärnrot shows four proven methods for making stone walls, the pros and cons of each, and how they can be combined.

The methods are buying ready-made stone walls made from hard foam, cutting the walls from XPS board (Styrofoam), engraving the walls from clay tablets, and a relatively new option – using 3D-printed sheets to make the stone walls.

While demonstrating the techniques, Martin discusses their relative cost, amount of work, artistic ability required, and how realistic they appear.
